Join Chris Ziguras, Omolabake Fakunle and Nannette Ripmeester during the EAIE 2023 for an exciting session on global citizens!
The world that will be waiting for our students after they graduate is changing at an unprecedented rate. As educators, it is our responsibility to assist the next generation in comprehending the intricate and ever-changing global work environment that they will be entering. This session‘s objective is to explore the connection between the internationalisation of education, employability, equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI). Through research findings and extensive discussion, we aim to bring our sector closer to recognizing the significance of global citizenship.
The session speakers:
Dr Omolabake Fakunle is Director, Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) at the University of Edinburgh. Her research examines connections between internationalisation and employability, at the conceptual level, in policy, and experientially.
Prof Chris Ziguras is Associate Dean, Global and Language Studies at RMIT University. His research focuses on the globalisation of education, particularly the ways in which various actors shape cross-border provision of higher education. He will consider the ways in which EDI issues associated with internationalisation are understood by governments, institutions and educators and the practical steps that are undertaken in response.
Nannette Ripmeester is the director of Expertise in Labour Mobility (ELM) and director for Europe & North America for i-graduate. Pivotal in Nannette’s work is the understanding of employability and supporting people & organisations’ ability to study and work across borders and between cultures.
The theme for the 2023 EAIE Conference is ‘Connecting currents’, which pays tribute to Rotterdam’s rich maritime heritage and recognizes the vital role that water plays in the city, both as a source of economic opportunity and a potential danger. Rotterdam is known as the gateway to Europe, where the river meets the sea, and people from all walks of life converge. In a similar way, international education facilitates connections between various areas of knowledge, expertise, cultures, and ideas. The issues that international educators tackle are diverse and dynamic, ranging from virtual learning to climate change, multilingualism to geopolitics. ‘Connecting currents’ is an invitation to explore and comprehend the complex world we live in, drawing inspiration and learning from our diverse and thriving community.
