Taiwan Conference: Labour Market Impact In an Aging Society
From 23 October to 1 November 2024 ELM was able to visit the beautiful Taiwan. Nannette Ripmeester was invited to present at a conference on “Diabetes in Older Adults and Human Resources Preparation” at Taichung Veterans General Hospital.
Nannette’s session focused on preparing for the global world of work. Highlighting that in a world where change seems to be the only constant, we need to understand the key trends impacting young people across the globe. She used research findings from Erasmus+ and GSO funded projects to help understand the impact of student mobility on skill development. Nannette showcased the importance of creating a ‘line of sight’ between education and future jobs. With Return On Investment (ROI) being showcased as essential for this generation of students, we moved into a lively Q&A session, discussing what (higher education institutions’) management can do to attract and retain talent to ensure we are able to keep serving an aging population.
Taichung Veterans General Hospital serves under the keywords Compassion, Quality, Innovation and Accountability. Words that resonate with many of the skills that employers have mentioned in recent research projects carried out by ELM. Particularly Compassion – Empathy – and Accountability were mentioned as essential skills to get hired.
